Vinyasa Flow Yoga I

I will teach you how to let the body become soft like the snow. Let it flow like water and be as light as air. Move through shapes and forms (postures) in a flowing state of grace. This is the basics of this class plus the breath will be incorporated with the movements, creating a sense of peacefulness and well being.

Flow II

The same as Flow 1 Yoga but more advanced with more fine tuning the posture. Best part of this class is a long Savansa and short meditation at the end to reflect on the beauty within.

Yin Yoga

Most forms of Yoga practiced today are Yang, they emphasize muscular movement and contraction. By contrast Yin Yoga targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine creating a more flexible and tone core. Yin postures (sitting postures) are held three to five minutes at a time. This type of practice complements the more muscular styles of Yoga bringing even more balance into your practice. When you leave this class you will be very relaxed and at peace.

   Pilates/Core Strengthening

Pilates is a method of exercise that was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's.  Pilates training combines elements from both Eastern and Western traditions and philosophies of exercise.  The Eastern approach embraces calm centering and wholeness with an emphasis on stretching and limbering.  The Western approach brings more attention to developing muscle tone and strength though movement.  The combination of the two is the basis for a holistic system of exercises for improving muscular strength and endurance balancing muscle strength with flexibility and achieving muscular balance, all with attention to conscious breath and mindfulness of the movements.

For the Pilates class,  Chris does mat work and uses pilates rings and thera-balls in her one hour sessions.  Classes start with slow stretches and breathing techniques.  The Pilates exercises follow,  occasionally pausing to tweak a client's form or assist or answer questions. The class ends with more stretches.

Private and group classes are available .

    Gentle Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is a deeply relaxing way of practicing yoga. With the use of props, the student is able to achieve the form of the yoga pose without using much muscular strength. This enables the student to hold poses longer with a deep release. Restorative yoga helps soothe the nervous system and calm and focus the mind.

Mindfulness Meditation

Why learn to meditate? A serious meditation practice may result in noticeable increases in the following seven characteristics of mindfulness.

Openness: Openness is the goalless goal. A goal is an object, but openness is the space between objects.

Clarity: As space between mental  objects (thoughts) increases, the space around mental objects increases. When mental objects are distinct one from the next, there is increased clarity. Seeing is less muddied. There are even moments when there are no mental objects including the object of self.

Impermanence: A mental object that is clear can be seen for what it is, impermanent, passing, and dependent on conditions. Nothing stays. If things were permanent, the world would be a frozen place, but instead it is always changing.

Codependency: As this object comes into being that object goes. As that object goes, this object comes into being. With clarity, the interdependence of this object and that becomes visible. The reality of no individual nature, emptiness is seen. It is just thus.

Acceptance: The felt-sense of codependency and impermanence manifests and individual objects are craved or repelled with less energy. The thrust is not to escape reality, but accept it.

Unified Mind: The self as object is seen as having the same nature as any mental object, impermanent and dependent on conditions. The ego diminishes.

Many-cause thinking: As the conditional and impermanent nature of self is recognized, an increase in perspective taking breeds mutual identification and loving compassion.
