Do you need your own yoga mat? No, rentals are available, however, it is nice to have your own mat, since you can clean and air it at your convenience.

What should I wear? Comfortable loose fitting clothes

What are the benefits of yoga? Benefits include muscle tone, shaping long lean muscles. Pain prevention: increased flexibility and strength can prevent certain types of pain i.e back pain, better breathing, mental calmness, and stress reduction.

Does yoga get my heart beat up? Yes, deep energizing breaths combined with fluid movement and challenging poses train the heart and lungs.

What if you can't do the pose? If a pose is uncomfortable or you can't hold for as long as the instructor requests, don't do it. Instead, sit and breathe quietly until the instructor moves the class onto another pose that's more comfortable for you.

How long is a yoga class? An hour to an hour and a half depending on the instructor and type of yoga.

How can I lose weight? I teach my students that I pound= 3,500 calories. In order to lose 1 pound of body weight, they must workout more, eat less, or do a combination of both.

Diet Example:

Eliminate 500 calories from your diet for 7 days= 3,500 calories= 1 pound lost per week

Is it rude to leave at the meditation period at the end of a class? No, however, the instructor should be told before class that you need to leave before meditation or shvasana.

What is the difference between yoga and core strengthening? Yoga is a practice that creates healing of the body, mind and soul with one point focus. The philosophy of yoga is that it is a practice that purifies the body and mind through a process of experiments in self-discipline in holding the postures. As you practice these various steps, you will gain increasing awareness to the intuitive wisdom. This creates a mew mental software that empowers you to make conscious. discriminating choices that lead you for your highest and greatest good.

Core exercises strengthen core muscles, including abs, back and pelvis. Strengthening core muscles make it easier to do most physical activities.

Is yoga more beneficial than aerobics? Yoga will increase your heart rate like aerobics but unlike aerobics, yoga will increase strength, flexibility, coordination and bring calm and balance to the mind.

Who is Sean Downey? Sean Downey was a 17 year resident of Romeo who had a profound love of yoga. He taught yoga at Davenport University, and filled in at many yoga studios. He died of cancer on March 4th 2007.
